25th April 10.00 pm a late call, but could we attend a charity function for a school at Grand Cypress for the following morning, bearing in mind that the following day turns out to be one of the biggest days in the British calander for a soccer showdown between Chelsea & Manchester United. A titleship decider. A six pointer. On the afternoon of the 25th, arrangements were made to watch the match live at a local venue. Up at 5.00 am to load the equipment and then off we go to the Pub for 7.00 am - along with 150 other Brits all having breakfast, watching the match. Some even with the not-to-lose-the- opportunity pint of lager. Coffee at that time in a morning is good for the writer. Chelsea won the day 2-1 and the titleship race has two crucial games for both teams left in the race - Chelsea and Man Utd.
The charity game was St James Tournament, shotgun start for 1.00 pm, so both the soccer and golf games fell just about right. The place, Grand Cypress, is a place that is always banded about in the golfing world. A place to see and a course to play. It looked fabulous but unfortunately did not have the time to play. I believe plenty of funds were raised on this 28th occasion and lots of fun was had by all. Winning immaterial but nice, participating and enjoying the game and company, the ultimate aim.
www.grandcypress.com for the full specs. Certainly a place to go, stay and play. The only drawback is that a few dollars and a few dollors more is required.
